Hehe, hi all.
This is my first opportunity to post some pictures taken from my latest travel to the Hawaiian Islands few weeks ago. I don't know what is happening, but after years of not traveling anywhere, I have now been to Hawaii 3 times in last 18 months - hope to go in December again

.
Anyway, for this thread, I will show you photographs taken on my little expedition to the newly forming black sand beach of Kalapana, Big Island, which got completely covered by lava flaws some twenty odd years ago.
I came up with this idea on my January 2004 trip, after talking to some nice locals that run 'Vernas' bar, which miraculously got spared from lava flaws. At that time I was too busy elsewhere, so could not come back and plant a tree.
So on my unplanned return to the island, I jumped to renewed opportunity and went back to the same beach. To my surprise, I was recognized by the same people, who furnished me and my friends with coconuts that they yanked out of a small grove next door.
Getting ready for some tropical gardening.
Fairly fresh lava flaw, which completely covered legendary Kalapana black sand beach, and some 130 houses.
Pick a spot, dig small hole, and place coconut in it.
Cover coconut with the sand followed by ring of lava stones for further protection.
Look happy...or silly...or both...
Increase creature comforts by adding some water.
All together now! We all planted separate trees.
Newly forming black sand beach is visible behind me. Job is done and I feel good.
At the time of planting, I decided to dedicate my effort to all you guys who frequent Surf Newquay web site. I wish we could all go together next time so each of you could experience the joy of this endeavor. But, I didn't mind doing all this for you

.
With planting done, we skipped back to our cars and went to see lava flaws nearby. But that is another story to be written about in here some other time.
