Hmmmm...my two pennies.....
Hossegor awesome but no good for beginners due mostly to rips and gnarly shore dumps! Take white water in and....get slammed in to the beach. also rammed (8 people on a peak, anyone?) and quite localised esp when the pro tour is on. And personally, i dont much like the french. and its expensive. Excellent seafood tho.
Portugal great, however due to planning laws, have to take a bit of a drive usually to get to the beach, Sagres area anyway. gotta have the sardines too!
Canaries....can get windy, being a small group of islands. Has swell on north coast most of the year. beginners stick to the beaches, they are pretty much all super friendly as its really only the expert breaks that get localised. urchins and rocks are some hazards, and if you smile then that goes a long way. locals have first dibs on waves tho, if THEY drop in on you then its still THEIR wave, apparently. hmmmm. not sure about that but when in rome.... helps if youre a girl

Expensive!
Morocco....being a huge land mass its really consistent. offshore in the mornings, swell all year (not so much in the summer) you can almost guarantee sun! locals are ace, cheap as chips to live/eat, lots of breaks (esp rights) around Taghazout. No nightlife or beer, but if youre up for a dawny every day, who cares about that?! Plus the village is right on the surf. Bonzer.
Ok so thats my contribution....I'm off to Guatemala for two weeks in May so if any of you guys have been there and can spill the beans on any breaks then let me know!!
