Exclamation Roadtrippin' with my two favourite allies

Roadtrip MkII

“Roadtrippin’ with my two favourite allies.” RHCP

Following our incredible trip last year, we decided to plan a second one for 2003. This time the dates were slightly earlier as we all have A-levels after the summer half term, where as we didn’t last year. This roadtrip looked as if it was going to turn into a huge convoy with 5 vehicles expected. However Sam and Dave had to pull out because of girlfriends, scratch two vehicles. Jamie then pulled out because he didn’t have a roof rack and so couldn’t take his long-board. This left the hardcore six in two cars. Giles, Nick and me as the original roadtrippers, and Nicks mates Will, Amy and Tessa.

I caught the train to Bournemouth and Nick picked me up in his old skool ex-mil landrover, and after a quick stop to pick up Amy and Tess we headed off in convoy to Yeovil to pick up Giles. To be precise we got about 100m, before we turned round to pick up the directions from Nick’s house. Second attempt we got one mile and the Landrover broke down. After a quick look under the bonnet from Will and we were on our way again until about 1.5 miles later when we broke down again. This time we called the RAC. After a picnic for three hours by the side of the road we headed off with a new ignition coil.

Yeovil was where we picked up Giles and did our shopping. Peach slices, pasties, sausages, Tommy k etc, and of course a shed load of beer, vodka (and in Wills case cider?) Half way down the M5 we broke down again. Thanks to Wills magic touch we were soon going again, and then we broke down again, but luckily Will fixed us again, for the final time THANK GOD, and we made it to our camp-site. (Which is Lobbfields, just outside Croyde, quite good if you don’t mind driving to the beach to surf.) As it was late we cooked the BBQ and then got drunk, so ended day one, Giles pissed out of his face chundering everywhere. NICE!
