Storms lead to beach downgrading

'Water quality tests carried out around the Cornish coast are being criticised.
It follows the downgrading of Crantock beach near Newquay where test results are thought to have been affected by heavy storms.
The beach has lost the top status it had been awarded for several years by the Marine Conservation Society.
The Society says it is thought pollution from fields had been washed on to the beach by heavy rain at the time of testing.
Sean Poland, who has surfed at Crantock for 30 years, said the tests, which now show Crantock as a basic pass, should reflect the normal state of the beach...'
