'SHUT the gate – world title No. 8 beckons Kelly Slater after he won the Quiksilver Pro surfing title at the Gold Coast on Friday.
The American wave wizard had the limbs of a teenager and the mind of an old pro to beat West Australian Taj Burrow 16.17/14.60 in clean 1m surf at Duranbah.
Slater, who turned 34 last month, shredded the small waves with huge tail-slides, floaters, reverse aerials and 360-degree turns in a comprehensive blitz.
If the waves had been slightly longer and bigger, he would have nudged a perfect score...'
