'While Brevard County surf fans were swept up by the Sebastian Inlet Globe Pro event in January, Cocoa Beach's Kelly Slater was toiling away for MTV's cameras over three days on Hawaii's Kona Coast. The seven-time world champion worked with the cable network to make up a guest list of surfing pros and celebrities for a sports-entertainment event styled after the old Rock-N-Jock specials.
The result -- "Kelly Slater Celebrity Surf Invitational" -- premieres at 4:30 p.m. today on MTV (USA). While pros such as Hawaii's Bruce Irons and California's Rob Machado did compete, Slater was surprised by the proficiency of some of the celebs...'
