'It’s hard to surf like Cameron Diaz in “Charlie’s Angels 2.” That’s the most important thing I learned from a weekend of surfing classes in Crystal Beach, San Narciso, Zambales.
Things started innocently enough. Zaldo, our instructor, demonstrated how to lie face down on the surfboard. I practiced lying belly down on the board, doing a push-up, and quickly getting on my feet. My back foot had to be at a 90-degree angle, while my front foot had to be at a 45-degree angle.
After a few minutes of practice, Zaldo clapped his hands and announced that we were ready to take to the waters. I thought “That’s it?”—not knowing that the hard part was yet to come.
Before heading out to the water, a leash was tied around my ankle, with the other end attached to the board. I was a bit surprised, since I don’t see anything tied to surfers on TV...'
