Mark Matthews lands big wave award for taming 14-metre monster at Cow Bombie

'SYDNEY surfer Mark Matthews doesn't count himself a big wave specialist but he's $20,000 richer after winning the annual biggest wave award in the closest contest in its seven-year history.
A member of the well known Bra Boys group, Matthews picked up the top prize at Bondi on Thursday night for his ride on a wave estimated at almost 14 metres high at Cow Bombie break off Western Australia last September.
Matthews shaded Sydney's Kobi Graham and Western Australia's Damien “Taco” Warr for the award.
Matthews said he'd been one of eight to 10 surfers in the water at Cow Bombie.
