An emergency meeting of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) at Mundaka in Spain on Saturday finished with the surfers' representative, Australia's 2007 world No.1 Mick Fanning, endorsing the governing body amid widespread rumours of a Kelly Slater-inspired rebel tour stealing the ASP's thunder from next year.
Slater's tour, which promised all manner of enticements, including having Slater on it, was under the working title of the Champions Surf Tour. But Slater's plans are dead in the water after the ASP voted to implement most of the changes Slater was forecasting...'
