Great Western Beach, Newquay, Cornwall

Great Western Beach on Cornwall Map Great Western Beach, Newquay, Cornwall, SurfNewquay.co.uk

Great Western Beach is slightly more exposed than Towan next door and subsequently picks up more swell. This in turn affords it less shelter during blown-out surf mostly during winter months. South Westerly wind is offshore which can produce great hollow waves and is rideable on all tide stages. Very popular with beginners. Watch out for big rocky outcrop which is submerged at high tide.

Beach Facilities

High season: Lifeguards are on duty from mid-May to mid-September. Great Western is a home to Reef Surfing Centre, which includes surf school, surf shop, surf and beach hire, beach cafe and toilets.
All year: There are number of cafes and toilets present in close vicinity. You will find many surf shops on Cliff Road where you can hire boards and wetsuits.

Beach Access

Great Western Beach is situated right below Cliff Road (A392) which runs parallel to it. You might find a parking space along the main road or in two car parks situated on either side of the railway station (behind Burger King) from where you can walk down to beach.
