  :: PERRANPORTH BEACH ::

One of the longest in Cornwall, Perranporth beach is spread over two miles of sand. At high tide it is cut into two. Perranporth is at the southern end while Penhale (or Perran Sands) covers the rest and is backed by high sand dunes.

>> Perranporth is a beach break that gets crowded in the summer months. Works on all tide stages but low to high tends to be the best. As with other beach breaks, sand banks constantly shift around. Unless surf is big it is OK for beginners. >> Penhale (Perran Sands) is much less crowded making it easy to find empty peaks which are strewed along its length. SE'ly wind is offshore. Picks up any swell there is. Good for beginners but always try to be close to other surfers as lifeguards only cover southern half. Penhale corner is on the northern end (next to rocks) and is good at low tide being also sheltered from northerly winds. It takes a long time to walk to it so don't say you haven't been warned.

Easy to get to as Perranporth is signposted from A3075 and A30. Perranporth has two main car parks, both with charges. One is in front of the beach and the other one is on the hill top overlooking the whole of the beach. To reach Penhale Beach, follow B3285 towards Perranporth. Perran Sands is on the right just before Perranporth. You can drive through Perran Sands Holiday Centre and park on the top of the dunes from where you can walk down to the beach. For the ultimate in fitness, take a walk from Perranporth!

  • High season: Penhale has beach bar, hire shop and lifeguards at southern end of the beach. Large selection of shops and entertainment are available from Perran Sands Holiday Centre.
  • All year: Perranporth has surf and hire shops, restaurants and toilets. Lifeguards in high season only.
